Job Summary
We seek a Legal Officer out legal duties in our company.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and representation to clients in litigation / corporate transactions / regulatory compliance/etc.
Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and pleadings.
Conduct legal research and analysis on case law, statutes, and regulatory matters.
Represent clients in court, arbitration, or mediation proceedings (if litigation-focused).
Assist senior lawyers in complex legal matters and transactions.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian legal and regulatory requirements.
Manage client relationships and maintain high levels of professionalism.
Draft, review, and update **employment contracts, company policies, and HR documents** in line with Nigerian legal standards.
Advise management on employment disputes, disciplinary actions, and termination proceduresto minimize legal risks
Ensure adherence to Nigerian labor laws(Labour Act, Pensions Reform Act, Employee Compensation Act, etc.) and industry regulations.
Handle employee grievances and mediate workplace conflicts in compliance with Nigerian dispute resolution practices.
Liaise with external lawyers, regulatory bodies and government agencieswhen required.
Other Responsibilities:
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and exit processes.
Maintain employee records (physical and digital) and ensure compliance with data protection laws (NDPA 2023).
Administer employee benefits (pensions, HMO, leave policies) in line with Nigerian labor standards.
Develop and implement HR policies (anti-harassment, health & safety, remote work) tailored to Nigerian workplace culture.
Conduct training sessions on labor law compliance, workplace ethics, and company policies.
Prepare and submit statutory reports (tax remittances, PAYE, pension filings) to relevant authorities (LIRS, PENCOM).
Maintain audit-ready records for compliance checks and internal reviews.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB, BL) or Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Legal Knowledge: Deep understanding of Nigeria’s Labour Act, Industrial Relations, Pensions Act, and Data Protection Law.
Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution kills.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in HR software (e.g., SeamlessHR, BambooHR) and Microsoft Office.
Other Requirements:
LL.B. and BL degrees from accredited universities and Nigerian law school.
Second Class Upper or Lower degree from both university and the Nigerian Law School
3-8years of post-call experienceinreputable law firms or corporate legal department.
Strong knowledge of corporate law/ land and propertyl/ real estate/ hospitality and construction law etc.].
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., LawPavilion, Westlaw).
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
